St. Louis Blues bettor explains why he won't hedge $100,000 ticket

There’s at least one hockey bettor with a tough decision to make this weekend.

Missouri native Scott Berry bet on the St. Louis Blues to win the Stanley Cup back in January, and got a favorable price — 250-to-1. He put down $400, and now, about six months later, the Blues are one win away from the title.

Berry has some options. He could hedge off that $100,000 ticket, or he could sell it on PropSwap.

Following St. Louis’ Game 5 win in Boston on Thursday night, he spoke with ESPN’s Doug Kezirian about his decision to not hedge. Essentially, Berry — a lifelong Blues fan — says he believes in his team and doesn’t want to cross over to bet on the Boston Bruins.

If Berry did want to get off of this ticket without betting on the Bruins, he could find a potentially even greater profit on PropSwap. According to ESPN’s Ben Fawkes, Berry has an offer to sell his ticket on PropSwap for $75,000 prior to Game 6.

But Berry has declined to go that route, either. He says he’s considered a hedge, but as of now, is going to stick with the Blues and his $100,000 ticket.

“After we lost Game 1, to be honest with you, there was a brief moment where I woke up the next day and I’m like, ‘am I doing the right thing here?’” Berry said on ESPN’s Daily Wager. “I haven’t hedged yet and I don’t plan to because I believe in these guys.”

The Blues will have a chance to close out the series at home in Game 6. According to Bovada, the Blues are -125 favorites to win Game 6 and -290 favorites to win the whole series.

Game 6 is slated for Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
