Florida St. head coach Mike Norvell announced this morning that running back and return specialist Jaylin Lucas sustained a season-ending injury in last Monday’s 28-13 home loss to Boston College as a 16.5-point home favorite.
Lucas, a transfer from Indiana, had 13 rushing yards on two attempts in the Seminoles’ 24-21 season-opening loss to Ga. Tech in Dublin, Ireland. He also had one catch for five yards and one kick return for 16 yards.
Lucas had two receptions for 34 yards in the loss to BC. He also had a 20-yard kickoff return.
Lucas played two seasons for the Hoosiers before transferring to FSU. In 2022 as a true freshman, he had 271 rushing yards, two touchdowns and a 5.5 yards-per-carry average.
Lucas also had 16 catches for 82 yards. He averaged 28.1 yards per kick return, including two TDs.
As a sophomore in 2023, Lucas had 275 rushing yards and two TDs, averaging 4.1 YPC. He caught 34 balls for 247 receiving yards and two TDs.
Lucas had another kickoff return for a TD last year when he averaged 26.0 yards on 22 KO returns.
After an open date in Week 2, FSU (0-2 straight up, 0-2 against the spread) is set to host Memphis on Saturday at noon Eastern on ESPN. As of early Monday afternoon, most books had the ‘Noles installed as seven-point home ‘chalk’ with a total of 52.
Circa opened FSU at -4 early Sunday afternoon, but the number bounced from -4.5 to -6 and back down to -5 in the first 90 minutes of betting. Circa joined most other spots at -7 this morning.
The Tigers are anywhere from +185 (Caesars) to +230 (DraftKings) on the money line.
