Per a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania, Detroit Pistons (49-19 straight up, 34-33-1 against the spread) star guard Cade Cunningham could miss a significant period of time after being diagnosed with a collapsed lung.

The Pistons aren’t certain how much time he’ll miss, but there’s optimism that he could be back by the start of the playoffs. The postseason starts on April 18.

The 24-year-old Cunningham has been the catalyst behind the franchise’s best season in two decades. In 61 regular-season games to date this year, the Oklahoma St. product is averaging 24.5 points, 9.9 assists, 5.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.9 blocked shots per game. He’s hit 46.1 percent of his field-goal attempts, 34.6 percent of his 3-pointers and 81.4 percent of his free throws.

Cunningham left Tuesday’s 130-117 win at Washington in the first quarter and did not return. The 247 combined points went North of the 233.5-point total to cash a fifth consecutive ‘over’ for the Pistons.

Detroit is in first place in the Eastern Conference with a 3.5-game lead over the Celtics and a five-game advantage over the Knicks. With 14 games left, the Pistons don’t play New York or Boston again.

They return to the court tonight at Washington (again). As of late Thursday morning, most books had Detroit installed as a 14.5-point road favorite with a total of 231 or 231.5. The Wizards were in the +700 to +800 (Westgate SuperBook) range on the money line.

FanDuel and the Westgate SuperBook have adjusted Detroit’s odds to win the 2026 NBA Finals to 30/1. Most spots previously had the Pistons in the 14/1 to 20/1 range.
