According to a Sunday report from ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Atlanta Hawks have traded Zaccharie Risacher to the Dallas Mavericks in a three-team deal. The Hawks are receiving Lu Dort from the Oklahoma City Thunder and Ryan Nembhard from the Mavs.

They’re also shipping a pair of second-round picks to OKC for the 2031 and 2032 NBA Drafts. The Thunder will also receive a 2027 second-round selection via Dallas (from Chicago).

The 27-year-old Dort helped OKC win the 2025 NBA championship when he was selected to the NBA All-Defensive First Team. He averaged 8.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game in the 2025 NBA Finals when the Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers in seven games.

Dort has spent all seven of his NBA seasons with OKC, making 423 starts in 432 career regular-season games. He averaged a career-high 17.2 PPG during the 2021-22 campaign.

Dort started in all 69 regular-season games he played in this past year. He averaged 8.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 APG. Dort made a career-low 38.5 percent of his field-goal attempts. He hit 34.4 percent of his 3-pointers and 75.9 percent of his free throws.

In 15 postseason games, Dort saw his minutes reduced to 22.3 MPG due to his shooting struggles. He averaged 5.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 APG, making only 36.6 percent of his FGAs, 30.8 percent of his 3-balls and 50.0 percent of his free throws.

As a rookie for the Mavs this past season, Nembhard started 27 times in 60 appearances. He averaged 6.6 points, 5.3 assists and 2.2 RPG. The Gonzaga product made 41.5 percent of his FGAs, 35.6 percent of his treys and 80.6 percent of his free throws.

Nembhard had an outstanding 316/85 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Atlanta won the NBA lottery for the first time in franchise history before the 2024 NBA Draft. With the #1 overall selection, the Hawks picked Zaccharie Risacher.

The 6-foot-8 wing started 73 times in 75 games during the 2024-25 season, averaging 12.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 APG. He buried 45.8 percent of his FGAs, 35.5 percent of his 3-pointers and 71.1 percent of his free throws.

Risacher was selected to the All-Rookie First Team and finished second in voting for Rookie of the Year honors.

Risacher only started 46 of 67 regular-season games this past year. He averaged 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 APG. He had dropped out of the rotation by the end of the season.

In fact, Risacher appeared in only three of six games in Atlanta’s first-round postseason loss to the Knicks, the eventual NBA champions. He played an average of only 7.7 minutes in those three appearances, averaging 3.7 points and 3.0 RPG.

Atlanta needed a backup to point guard Dyson Daniels, and Nembhard provides that. Dort brings championship experience, tenacious defense and plenty of muscle and intensity to the Hawks, who have seen their odds to win the 2027 NBA Finals reduced from 70/1 down to 45/1 at FanDuel.

“Losing Lu will certainly have an affect on the team, but I think we are positioned well to reimagine ourselves and continue to find new avenues to win,” OKC general manager Sam Presti told the Oklahoman. “Cason [Wallace] and Ajay [Mitchell] will have more responsibility, as will others.”

By trading Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins in the last month, OKC has acquired seven future second-round picks and moved under the second apron by shedding $200 million off of its books.

Atlanta is going to have around $40 million of salary-cap space for next summer.

As for the Mavs, they took advantage of a buy-low opportunity to get Risacher, who just turned 21 in early April.

FanDuel has OKC as the +260 co-favorites along with the Spurs to win the 2027 NBA Finals. Dallas is a 200/1 longshot.
