Milwaukee Bucks perennial All-Star point guard Damian Lillard was diagnosed with a torn Achilles tendon Monday after sustaining the injury early in Sunday’s 129-103 Game 4 home loss to the Indiana Pacers.

The recovery timeline for such injuries is usually 9-12 months, so Lillard’s 2025-26 season is in doubt. The nine-time NBA All-Star selection posted a message to his Instagram account on Monday.

“Appreciate all the prayers and well wishes,” the message read. “This one really hurt… HIS way not MY way. To Be Continued.”

Lillard had missed Milwaukee’s last 14 games of the regular season after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his right calf in late March. He returned in Game 2 after missing the series opener.

However, Lillard was struggling in the series to date, making only 6-of-27 shots from the field and 3-of-16 launches from 3-point range. During 58 regular-season contests, Lillard averaged 24.9 points, 7.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

“He’s one of the toughest — mentally toughest — guys I’ve ever been around, and that’s why he is who he is,” Giannis Antetokounmpo said after Sunday’s game. “And I believe he’s going to overcome every obstacle that’s going to be in front of him.

“Everybody’s going to be there for him, and no matter what the obstacle is for him, he’s going to overcome and we’re going to help him overcome it.”

Lillard will turn 35 in July. The 13-year veteran has $113 million left on the two remaining years of his contract. The 2025-26 campaign is a guaranteed year, and he has a player option for 2026-27.

The Bucks trail the Pacers 3-1 and are in danger of their third consecutive first-round exit from the playoffs. They’re 7.5-point road underdogs in tonight’s Game 5 at Indiana.
