The rookie campaign for New York Giants (2-6 straight up, 4-4 against the spread) running back Cam Skattebo came to an end when he dislocated his ankle in Sunday’s 38-20 loss at Philadelphia. He had season-ending surgery last night in Philadelphia.
Skattebo went down with the injury in the second quarter. His right leg was pinned underneath him as he took a hit, leaving his lower leg awkwardly bent in gruesome fashion.
The Arizona St. product was carted off the field after his teammates surrounded him with words of support. Skattebo had an 18-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter, and he finished with 12 rushing yards on three attempts before leaving the game.
In eight games this year, Skattebo had 410 rushing yards, five TDs and a 4.1 yards-per-carry average. He added 24 receptions for 207 yards and two TDs.
Skattebo enjoyed a breakout performance in a 34-17 home win over Philadelphia on Thursday Night Football on Oct. 9. He produced 98 rushing yards and three TDs on 19 carries.
This is a brutal loss for the Giants, who have found their QB of the present and future in Jaxson Dart, the rookie QB out of Ole Miss who was visibly upset and frustrated to see his fellow rookie Skattebo get hurt.
Dart is now without his two best offensive weapons for the rest of the season. WR Malik Nabers went down last month.
Dart completed 14-of-24 passes for 193 yards and one TD without an interception against the Eagles. He also had 17 rushing yards and one TD on six attempts.
For the season, Dart has connected on 59.9 percent of his throws for 984 yards with an 8/3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He also has 195 rushing yards, four TDs and a 4.5 YPC average.
I hit Dart’s player prop to score an anytime TD yesterday for a +230 payout. He’s cashed his anytime TD prop for profit galore in four of his first five NFL starts.
The Giants will host the 49ers this week in hopes of ending a two-game losing streak. As of early Monday afternoon, most books had San Francisco installed as a 2.5-point road favorite with extra juice in the -115 to -120 range. The total was 52.5 or 53 points, while New York was +130 on the money line.
The ‘over’ has hit in three straight games for the G-Men.
