Missouri star running back Ahmad Hardy is in stable condition after sustaining a gunshot wound early Sunday morning at a concert in Mississippi.
Missouri released a statement Monday morning through the football team’s Twitter account.
“Mizzou Football student-athlete Ahmad Hardy was the victim of a shooting at a concert in Mississippi early Sunday morning and sustained a gunshot wound. Ahmad underwent surgery Sunday in Mississippi and is in stable condition.
Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans. We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.
A timeline for his return to football activities is unknown at this time. Mizzou Athletics will provide more information on his status when it becomes available.”
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Monday that Hardy “is alert and moving around” today. He had surgery on Sunday.
The 20-year-old Hardy was the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and a first-team All-Sun Belt selection in 2024 when he played for ULM. He led the Sun Belt Conference in rushing attempts (237), rushing yards (1,351) and rushing touchdowns (13), averaging 5.7 yards per carry.
Hardy transferred from ULM to Missouri after his breakout freshman campaign. As a sophomore for the Tigers, he earned consensus All-American honors, was named the SEC Newcomer of the Year and was a first-team All-SEC selection.
Hardy led the SEC and was second in the nation in rushing yards with 1,649 last season. He also led the league with his 6.4 YPC average.
Hardy was second in the SEC in rushing TDs (16), carries (256), plays from scrimmage (262) and yards from scrimmage (1,671).
Missouri will open its 2026 season at home vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sept. 3. The Tigers play at Kansas on Sept. 11 before closing out its non-conference slate by hosting Troy on Sept. 19.
Their SEC opener is at Mississippi St. on Sept. 26.
