Alabama senior running back Jam Miller is out indefinitely after injuring his collarbone Saturday. According to On3’s Brett McMurphy, the Crimson Tide is “hopeful” Miller will be able to return to the field by Sept. 27 when it plays at Georgia.
Miller started seven games in 2024, producing 668 rushing yards and seven touchdowns with a 4.6 yards-per-carry average. He added 16 catches for 155 receiving yards and one TD.
Miller has played in 40 games at Alabama since arriving as a freshman in 2022. He has 1,092 career rushing yards, 10 TDs and a 5.0 YPC average. Miller also has 21 career receptions for 227 yards and two TDs.
In a statement released Sunday morning, Alabama second-year head coach Kalen DeBoer said, “Jam Miller suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday’s scrimmage and went in for a procedure on Saturday evening. Jam should recover fully with a timetable for his return yet to be determined.”
The good news is that Alabama has plenty of depth at the RB position. In fact, Phil Steele’s National Unit Rankings have the Tide #7 at RB. As a redshirt freshman in 2024, RB Richard Young had 146 rushing yards, two TDs and a 5.4 YPC average.
Young is competing with sophomore Daniel Hill and senior Dre Washington for the RB2 spot behind Miller. Hill had only 61 rushing yards and one TD on 21 attempts (2.9 YPC) as a true freshman last year.
Washington is a three-star transfer from Louisiana. In 31 games across the last three seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns, Washington had 1,343 rushing yards, nine TDs and a 5.9 YPC average. He also has 15 career catches for 155 yards and two TDs.
DeBoer signed one true freshman RB in the 2025 recruiting class. That’s AK Dear who is a four-star prospect, according to the 247SportsComposite. Dear was ranked as the #53 player nationally, the #2 RB in the class and the #3 player out of the state of Mississippi. He enrolled early and participated in spring practice.
