Luka Doncic scored 15 of his game-high 33 points in the fourth quarter last night, as Dallas (59-36 straight up, 56-39 against the spread) stole home-court advantage away from Minnesota in a 108-105 win as a five-point road underdog in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals. The Mavericks hooked up money-line backers with a +160 payout.

Jason Kidd’s team had an off night from 3-point range, hitting only 6-of-25 attempts (24%), but it enjoyed a 62-38 advantage over the Timberwolves in points in the paint. Kyrie Irving scored 24 of his 30 points in the first half.

Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards buried a trey to give his team a 102-98 lead with 3:37 left, but the Mavs responded with an 8-0 run. Doncic cut the deficit to one with a step back 25-footer to start the surge. Next, P.J. Washington put Dallas in the lead for good by draining a 3-ball with 1:56 remaining.

From there, the Mavs got a pair of stops before Doncic hit a mid-range bucket to put them ahead 106-102 with 49.0 seconds left. Minnesota’s Naz Reid’s tip-in basket cut the deficit to 106-104, but Irving buried a pair of clutch free throws with 7.0 seconds remaining to put the game on ice.

The 213 combined points went ‘over’ the 207-point total.

In addition to his 33 points on 12-of-26 shooting from the field, Doncic dished out eight assists, grabbed six rebounds, had six steals and one blocked shot. Irving finished with five rebounds, four assists and one block.

Washington contributed 13 points, seven boards and two blocked shots, while Daniel Gafford had 10 points and nine rebounds. Dereck Lively II added nine points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Jaden McDaniels nailed 6-of-9 triples and 9-of-15 field-goal attempts to score a team-high 24 points. Six Timberwolves were in double figures, including Edwards (19 points), Karl-Anthony Towns (16), Reid (15), Rudy Gobert (12) and Kyle Anderson (11).

Edwards had 11 rebounds, eight assists and two steals, making 5-of-12 3-pointers but just 6-of-16 FGAs. Towns was an abysmal 6-of-20 on FGAs and 2-of-9 from beyond the arc. Gobert and Towns had seven rebounds apiece, but Dallas had a 48-40 rebounding advantage.

As of late Thursday morning, most books had Minnesota (64-30 SU, 49-45 ATS) listed as a five or 5.5-point home favorite for Friday’s Game 2. The total was 207.5 points, and the Mavs were +170 to +180 on the money line.

For its updated series price, FanDuel has Dallas as a -164 ‘chalk,’ leaving the T-wolves as +138 underdogs. The betting shop has the Mavs at -1.5 games at a -106 price (Minnesota is +1.5, -114) for the series spread.

FanDuel’s updated odds to win the NBA Finals have Boston as a -180 favorite, followed by Dallas (+350), Minnesota (+480) and Indiana (37/1).
