The NFL has suspended Detroit WR Jameson Williams for two games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy.
Williams, a 23-year-old third-year pro, has started four of six games for the Lions this year, hauling in 17 catches on 30 targets for 361 yards and three touchdowns. He also has 32 rushing yards on four attempts, gaining first-down yardage on three of those carries.
“We’re prepared to not have him,” Detroit head coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday. “We’ll be fine.”
This is Williams’s second suspension for violating NFL rules. In April of 2023 before his second season, the league announced that Williams was facing a six-game suspension for betting on a college football game at the team hotel the day before a road game.
That was a violation of the NFL’s betting policy, but Williams had his suspension reduced to four games. He started 10 of 12 regular-season games he played in last year, catching 24 balls for 354 yards and two TDs.
In three postseason contests, Williams had six receptions on nine targets for 79 yards and one TD.
According to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard, Williams is disappointed with the suspension but says he has “no choice but to take it on the chin.”
“I’m in good spirits just ready to get back with my brothers as soon as possible,” Williams told ESPN.
Detroit (5-1 straight up, 5-1 against the spread) has ripped off four straight wins both SU and ATS going into Sunday’s home game vs. Tennessee. As of late Tuesday afternoon, most books had the Lions installed as 11 or 11.5-point favorites with a total of 45.5.
The Titans were +425 to +460 on the money line.
