The New England Patriots are involved in another NFL scandal.
This time they’re the accusers, claiming that the Houston Texans tampered in an attempt to hire Nick Caserio as their general manager.
Caserio currently serves as “director of player personnel” for the Patriots. Although many view coach Bill Belichick as the real general manager, Caserio is his right-hand man and a crucial figure in constructing the roster.
According to ESPN, Houston fired its general manager less than 24 hours after New England’s Super Bowl ring ceremony at owner Robert Kraft’s house.
Former Patriots team chaplain and current Texans executive vice president of team development Jack Easterby went to the party. Easterby and Caserio happen to share an agent.
Caserio also is “very close” with Houston coach Bill O’Brien, a member of the Patriots’ staff for five years.
The Texans requested permission to interview Caserio, which the Patriots have not granted.
New England now believes that Houston tampered at the June 6 party at Kraft’s house, and filed charges with the NFL on Wednesday.
According to Pro Football Talk, the Patriots may have video and photo evidence of the alleged tampering.
The NFL is expected to investigate.
