Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold was arrested Wednesday night in Tampa. He is facing multiple felony charges in connection to a kidnapping and robbery that took place back in early February.
The University of Alabama product, who was known as “Miss Terry’s favorite player” when he starred in the Crimson Tide’s secondary for Nick Saban, is staring at four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. Convictions on all the charges could carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Arnold appeared in a Hillsborough County court earlier this afternoon. He was ordered to be held without bail for now. The state has said that it will file a motion seeking to keep Arnold locked up until trial.
Arnold is from Tallahassee and is being represented by Tim Jansen, a well-known Tallahassee attorney who is going to request that his client be granted bond at his next hearing on Monday.
The agency that represents Arnold is EAG Sports Management. EAG’s CEO Denise White released the following statement following his arrest:
“Terrion Arnold categorically denies any involvement in the matters underlying the allegations made against him and maintains his innocence. There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations. Instead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences. Mr. Arnld looks forward to his day in court and is confident that the judicial process will lead to his ultimate vindication.”
The Detroit Lions have also released a statement:
“We are aware of the legal situation regarding Terrion Arnold. We will not comment at this time out of respect for the ongoing legal process.”
Police are claiming that Arnold was the primary conspirator. Six other individuals were previously arrested by Tampa Police in the armed robbery that allegedly occurred after midnight on Feb. 4.
Several days earlier on Feb. 1, this entire ordeal started when Arnold’s personal belongings were stolen from an Airbnb he had rented in Largo. He had occasionally stayed at this spot with lots of friends, including the six co-defendants — Freddie Lee Hughes III, Lyndell Hudspon, Arianna Del Valle, Boakai Hilton, Christion Williams and Jasmine Randazzo.
On Feb. 3, Arnold, Hughes, Hilton and another individual reported to the Largo Police Department that their personal belongings worth in excess of $250,000 had been stolen. Per Tampa Police, Arnold believed that two of the three kidnapping victims were involved in the Airbnb robbery. However, authorities later determined that none of the three victims were responsible for the initial theft.
In a press release from the state, Arnold is accused of “orchestrating the kidnapping and robbery just hours after reporting the missing items to the Largo Police Department.”
The incident began when Arnold allegedly directed Del Valle and Randazzo to contact one of the victims and lure him to their apartment. When the victims drove to the apartment on Feb. 4, Williams and Hudson were hiding in the closet of one of the bedrooms.
When the victims entered the bedroom, they were attacked at gunpoint and assaulted by Hudson and Williams. Investigators are accusing Del Valle of streaming the attack on the victims to Arnold, Hughes and Hilton, who were on their way to the scene.
A group chat was also created and included all the co-defendants. In this group chat, Arnold and Hughes allegedly instructed Williams, Del Valle and Hudson during the assault.
The victims had property stolen from them, but they were directed at gunpoint to leave the apartment in their vehicle at around 1:40 a.m. The victims reported the incident to Tampa Police and identified all of the suspects.
Arnold had not been charged until Wednesday and has participated in Detroit’s offseason program.
The Lions made Arnold their first-round pick with the #24 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. In 16 regular-season games as a rookie, the cornerback recorded 60 tackles, 10 passes broken up and one fumble recovery.
In Detroit’s 45-31 home loss to Washington in the playoffs, Arnold had six tackles.
Arnold had started seven times in eight appearances before going down with a season-ending injury last year. He produced 31 tackles, eight PBU and one interception.
