The Miami Dolphins (0-3 straight up, 0-3 against the spread) will be without star running back De’Von Achane for the remainder of the season after he sustained a torn ACL in Sunday’s 24-10 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
“My heart breaks for him but at the same time, I know that he’ll be back and he’ll be back strong,” coach Jeff Hafley said Monday.
Achane was placed on injured reserve Monday. He inked a four-year, $64 million contract during the offseason.
In three games, Achane had 127 rushing yards on 34 attempts for a 3.7 yards-per-carry average. He also had seven catches for 49 receiving yards.
In 16 regular-season games last year, Achane produced 1,350 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 5.7 YPC. The Texas A&M product added 67 receptions for 488 yards and four TDs.
Achane played in all 17 regular-season contests in 2024, rushing for 907 yards and six TDs while averaging 4.5 YPC. He had 78 catches for 592 yards and six TDs.
In 11 regular-season games as a rookie in 2023, Achane had 800 rushing yards and eight TDs while averaging 7.8 YPC. He snagged 27 receptions for 197 yards and three TDs.
Achane has played in 47 career regular-season games, producing 3,184 rushing yards and 22 TDs with a 5.5 YPC average. He has 179 career catches for 1,326 yards and 13 TDs.
With Achane going out in the first half vs. Kansas City, Ollie Gordon II had 41 rushing yards and one TD on 17 carries. He was the only other RB that was active.
RB Jaylen Wright was inactive, and Jarquez Hunter is on the practice squad. WR Malik Washington took some snaps at RB, turning two attempts into five rushing yards.
“I want to run the football. That’s important and we’ve got the offensive line to do it. I have a lot of confidence in these backs, so this isn’t like we can’t run the ball anymore,” Hafley said Monday. “These are NFL players … Yeah, I’m going to miss De’Von big time, but at the same time, I have total confidence in those guys that we’re going to be able to run the football.”
Miami is likely going to seek to add another RB to the roster at some point this week.
As of Tuesday morning, most books had the Minnesota Vikings installed as 11.5-point home favorites for Sunday’s showdown vs. Miami. The total was 38.5 or 39 points, while the Dolphins were +500 on the money line.
