San Francisco rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest Saturday near Union Square after a 17-year old attempted to rob him.
The 49ers placed the University of Florida product on the reserve/non-football injury list on Monday. He’ll miss at least four games while recovering.
San Francisco made Pearsall its first-round choice with the #31 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, Pearsall was walking alone at 3:30 p.m. when the suspect tried to rob him at the corner of Geary and Grant streets. A struggle ensued with Pearsall and the suspect both being shot.
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins hasn’t made a charging decision on the suspect yet, indicating that it could come tomorrow or Wednesday.
According to a post on social media from Pearsall’s mother, the bullet exited Pearsall’s back and didn’t hit any vital organs. Pearsall was seen on video walking to the ambulance without much assistance.
The 49ers released a statement Saturday saying that Pearsall was in serious but stable condition. His status was updated to fair on Sunday, and he was released from the hospital.
Pearsall started his collegiate career at Arizona St., playing for the Sun Devils from 2019-21. He spent his last two seasons at Florida.
In 13 games for the Gators in 2022, Pearsall had 33 catches for 661 yards and five TDs. He also had 113 rushing yards and one TD on merely eight attempts for a 14.1 yards-per-carry average.
Pearsall had 65 receptions for 965 yards and four TDs last year. He also had 62 rushing yards and two TDs on three carries.
In 55 career games at ASU and UF, Pearsall had 159 catches for 2,420 yards and 14 TDs. He also had 253 career rushing yards, five TDs and a 12.0 YPC average.
