Texas added a pair of big-time weapons over the weekend to surround star quarterback Arch Manning. The Longhorns signed ex-Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman and flipped former NC St. RB Hollywood Smothers from Alabama.
Coleman, a 6-foot-3, 201-pound target who is a five-star transfer, was ranked as the #1 WR and #4 overall player in the portal, per the 247Sports Composite. He was a five-star prospect out of high school who was ranked as the #2 WR and #3 overall player in the 2024 class by the 247Sports Composite.
As a true freshman at Auburn, Coleman had 37 catches for 598 yards and eight touchdowns. He hauled in seven receptions for 128 yards and two TDs in a 43-41 win over Texas A&M in four overtimes.
One week later in the Iron Bowl at Alabama, Coleman had seven grabs for 78 yards and one TD in a 28-14 loss to the Crimson Tide.
As a sophomore in 2025, Coleman snagged 56 catches for 708 yards and five TDs. In a 45-38 loss at Vanderbilt, he had 10 receptions for 143 yards and one TD.
Coleman wasn’t targeted nearly enough and dealt with poor QB play far too often during his two-year stay on The Plains. He probably won’t have to deal with that in Austin next season.
Smothers reportedly committed to Alabama on Jan. 5, but he obviously had not put pen to paper yet because he flipped to Texas yesterday. He’ll be joined in the backfield by ex-Arizona St. RB Raleek Brown, who also committed to the Longhorns this past week.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Smothers is a four-star transfer who was the #34 overall player in the portal and the #2 RB. He started his career at Oklahoma in 2023, rushing for 42 yards on 11 carries in four games as a true freshman.
Smothers transferred to NC St. ahead of the 2024 campaign. He produced 571 rushing yards and six touchdowns while averaging 6.4 yards per carry as a redshirt freshman for the Wolfpack. Smothers added 19 catches for 263 yards and two TDs.
Smothers played in 11 games this past season, rushing for 939 yards and six TDs with a 5.9 YPC average. He also had 37 receptions for 189 yards and one TD.
In 26 career games, Smothers has 1,552 rushing yards, 12 TDs and a 6.0 YPC average. He has 57 career catches for 453 yards and three TDs.
Smothers was a first-team All-ACC selection in 2025.
The 247Sports Composite now has Texas with the #1 overall recruiting class in the nation, and it also has the #2 transfer-specific group. The Longhorns have 36 commitments, including four five-star additions and 16 four-star players.
They have signed 13 players from out of the portal. Coleman is the lone five-star transfer, but there are also five four-star commitments via the portal.
One of those is Brown, who had 1,141 rushing yards, four TDs and a 6.1 YPC average for the Sun Devils in 2025. He also had 34 catches for 239 yards and two TDs.
