Syracuse (3-1 straight up, 2-1-1 against the spread) quarterback Steve Angeli sustained a torn Achilles tendon in Saturday’s 34-21 win at Clemson and will miss the rest of the 2025 season. The Orange won outright as a 17.5-point road underdog and hooked up money-line supporters with a +600 payout.
Angeli completed 18-of-31 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns without an interception before going down with the non-contact injury while scrambling.
In four games this year, the Notre Dame transfer has completed 98-of-156 passes (62.8%) for 1,316 yards with a 10/2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He also has a rushing TD.
Angeli is currently second in the nation in passing yards behind only Baylor’s Sawyer Robertson by four yards.
LSU transfer QB Rickie Collins replaced Angeli, completing 3-of-8 throws for 34 yards and one TD without an interception. RB Yasin Willis had 94 rushing yards on 18 attempts against the Tigers.
WR Johntay Cook had six receptions for 113 yards, while WR Justus Ross-Simmons had five catches for 53 yards and two TDs.
Collins also got snaps in Syracuse’s 66-24 home win over Colgate in Week 3. He connected on 4-of-6 passes for 65 yards and one TD with one interception.
Collins played in three games for LSU in 2024, completing all five of his pass attempts for 35 yards. He had 18 rushing yards on four carries.
In 2023, Collins had 19 rushing yards on three attempts in a 72-10 home win over Grambling. He completed both of his passes for three yards.
Collins will make his first career start in Saturday’s home game vs. Duke. As of Monday morning, most books had Duke (2-2 SU, 1-3 ATS) listed as a 5.5-point road favorite with a total of 59.5 or 60. The Orange were +175 on the money line.
During Fran Brown’s two-year tenure, Syracuse is 3-0 both SU and ATS in three games as a home underdog. The Orange won outright as a home ‘dog last year vs. 23rd-ranked Ga. Tech, Va. Tech and eighth-ranked Miami.

Angeli will qualify for a redshirt season and should have two years of eligibility remaining going into the 2026 campaign.
