UPDATE: Jacksonville announced before Week 11 that Hunter will miss the remainder of the season.
Jacksonville (4-3 straight up, 4-3 against the spread) wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter has been placed on injured reserve after sustaining a noncontact injury to his right knee during Thursday’s practice. The University of Colorado product will miss at least the next four games.
“We’re currently assessing the injury just to determine the best course of action moving forward for Travis and for the team,” Jacksonville head coach Liam Coen said. “Feel bad for the guy, for the kid, for our team, for everything, but he’s in good spirits right now. Minor setback for a major comeback. That’s just the way it’s got to be.”
The Jaguars play Sunday at Las Vegas. As of late Friday afternoon, most books had Coen’s team installed as a 2.5-point road favorite (at a -115 price) with a total of 44. The Raiders were in the +120 to +125 range on the money line.
In seven games this season, Hunter has hauled in 28 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown. He also has 15 tackles and three passes broken up.
Hunter had the best performance of his rookie year the last time out in a 35-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in London on Oct. 19. He had season-highs in targets (14), catches (8), receiving yards (101) and TD catches (1).
Hunter has played 67 percent of the offensive snaps for the Jags and 36 percent of their defensive snaps.
Jacksonville WRs Brian Thomas Jr. (shoulder) and Tim Patrick (groin) are both listed as ‘questionable’ against the Raiders, who are 2-5 both SU and ATS.
Hunter will also miss games at Houston, vs. the L.A. Chargers and at Arizona. He’ll be eligible to come off of IR for a Nov. 30 road game at Tennessee.
FanDuel has the Jags with +450 odds to win the AFC South. The Colts, who are 7-1 SU and have a 2.5-game lead in the loop, are +370 ‘chalk’ to win the division.
Jacksonville has 60/1 odds to win Super Bowl LX. Those are the 15th-shortest odds on the board.
