The Indiana Hoosiers secured a verbal commitment earlier today from wide receiver Monshun Sales, who announced his pledge to IU during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
According to the 247Sports Composite, Sales is a 6-foot-5, 200-pound target who is ranked as the #2 WR in the 2027 recruiting class. He is a five-star prospect that’s ranked as the nation’s #8 overall player and the #1 player out of the state of Indiana.
Sales chose IU over Alabama, Texas, LSU and Ohio St. He is the first five-star commitment in program history. Dasan McCullough, who was a four-star prospect in the 2022 cycle that was ranked as the country’s #75 overall player per the 247Sports Composite, is the highest-rated recruit the Hoosiers have ever signed.
Sales plays for Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis. As a junior in 2025, he had 37 receptions for 794 yards and nine touchdowns. He also recorded 56 tackles on defense.
“The Hoosiers are getting one of those rare prospects that can really run yet also has terrific size,” ESPN national recruiting director Tom Luginbill said. “Indiana has had tremendous success with bigger targets on the outside in former Hoosier and current Baltimore Raven Elijah Sarratt and current Hoosier Charlie Becker.”
The 247Sports Composite now has Indiana’s 2027 class ranked #30 nationally. The group includes another elite WR in Branden Sharpe, who is a four-star prospect that’s ranked as the #233 player in the country, the #4 prospect out of Indiana and the #34 WR in the class.
Curt Cignetti led the Hoosiers to an incredible 16-0 straight-up record and a 10-6 against-the-spread mark in the second season of his tenure in Bloomington last year, including a 27-21 win over Miami in the finals of the College Football Playoff. Cignetti now owns a 27-2 SU record and a 20-9 ATS ledger at IU.
It is without question the most remarkable rebuilding job in college football history. Remember, the Hoosiers had never won 10 games in a season prior to Cignetti’s arrival. They had won nine games twice previously in 1945 and 1967, but Cignetti won the first 10 games of his tenure.
FanDuel has the defending national champions with a season win total of 10.5 (‘over’ -112, ‘under’ -108) in 2026. IU has +270 odds to win the Big Ten Championship Game again, and it has +850 odds to win the CFP.
Cignetti’s third IU squad returns six starters on defense and four on offense. The Hoosiers brought in the nation’s #20 overall recruiting class and the #8 transfer-specific group. There are 39 new commits, including 13 four-star players. There are six four-star transfers among the 17 imports from the portal.
Indiana opens the season at home vs. North Texas on Sept. 5. Most books have the Hoosiers installed as 39.5-point home ‘chalk.’
