As we go into Week 10 of the 2024 college football season, it appears as if we have a four-man race to win the Heisman Trophy.
As of Monday morning, FanDuel had Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel installed as the +230 ‘chalk’ to win the award. Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter (+270), Miami QB Cam Ward (+300) and Boise St. RB Ashton Jeanty (+440) were right on Gabriel’s heels.
The next-shortest odds belonged to Clemson QB Cade Klubnik (15/1), Georgia QB Carson Beck (33/1), Penn St. QB Drew Allar (50/1), Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders (50/1), Indiana QB Kurtis Rourke (60/1), Army QB Bryson Daily (60/1), Texas QB Quinn Ewers (70/1), LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (70/1), Ohio St. QB Will Howard (100/1), Kansas St. QB Avery Johnson (100/1), Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart (100/1), Ohio St. WR Jeremiah Smith (100/1) and Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard (100/1).
Other notable players on the board include BYU QB Jake Retzlaff (120/1), Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia (150/1), Pitt QB Eli Holstein (250/1) and Navy QB Blake Horvath (400/1).
In eight games this year, Gabriel has completed 76.2 percent of his passes for 2,371 yards with an 18/5 touchdown-to-interception ratio. The former QB at both UCF and Oklahoma also has five rushing TDs for the Ducks, who will take an 8-0 record into The Big House on Saturday to face Michigan.
After missing parts of Colorado’s last two games due to an injury, Hunter was back at full speed for the Buffaloes’ 34-23 home win over Cincinnati in Week 9. He had nine catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns. On the defensive side, Hunter had a pair of tackles and four passes broken up.
For the season, Hunter has 60 receptions for 757 and eight TDs. He has 21 tackles, seven PBU, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one tackle for loss. The Buffaloes improved to 6-2 both straight up and against the spread with Saturday’s 34-23 home win over Cincinnati. They have an open date in Week 10 before playing at Texas Tech on Nov. 9.
Ward led Miami (8-0 SU, 5-3 ATS) to a 36-14 home win over FSU by completing 22-of-35 passes for 208 yards. It was actually a season-low in passing yards, as he’d thrown for at least 304 yards in the Hurricanes’ first seven contests.
For the season, Ward has completed 68.0 percent of his passes for 2,746 yards with a 24/5 TD-INT ratio. He has 186 rushing yards, three TDs and a 4.4 yards-per-carry average.
Jeanty helped BSU to a crucial 29-24 win at UNLV this past Friday night by rushing for 128 yards and one TD on 33 carries. He’s led the Broncos to five consecutive wins since a 37-34 loss at Oregon in Week 2.
In seven games this year, Jeanty has 1,376 rushing yards, 18 TDs and an 8.7 YPC average. He also has 12 catches for 50 yards and one TD.
Klubnik has led Clemson to six straight wins by margins of 16 points or more since losing to Georgia in Atlanta back in Week 1. He’s connected on 66.7 percent of his throws for 1,836 yards with a 20/3 TD-INT ratio. Klubnik has 227 rushing yards, four TDs and a 5.5 YPC average.
