Clemson (3-4 straight up, 2-5 against the spread) sophomore wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. will miss the rest of the 2025 season after going down with a back injury in Saturday’s 35-24 loss vs. SMU as a 3.5-point road favorite.
“It was a very, very scary injury, and the doctors did an amazing job,” head coach Dabo Swinney said Monday.
“The doctors are very confident he’ll make a full recovery. Definitely something that’ll keep him out the rest of this season, but thankful that all indications are he’s going to be OK. Just a real blessing for that.”
Wesco landed on his head awkwardly when a low tackle on a punt return sent him into the air upside down. Although he was able to walk off the field, Wesco spent two nights at a hospital in Greenville before being released Monday.
Wesco leads the Tigers in receptions (31), receiving yards (537) and touchdowns catches (six). He’s the ACC’s co-leader in TD catches and ranks fifth in receiving yards.
Wesco was a Freshman All-American last year when he had 41 receptions for 708 yards and five TDs.
Wesco has returned 10 punts this season for 78 yards.
In a post to his Instagram account Monday, Wesco said, “Thank you to everyone sending your prayers. I really appreciate everyone’s help and support! It means the world to me.”
Clemson has an open date this weekend before playing back-to-back home games vs. Duke and FSU. The Tigers still have road games remaining at Louisville and at South Carolina.
Clemson has produced double-digit win totals in 13 of the last 14 seasons, but that won’t be the case this year. The Tigers will have to win out to reach the 9-4 record they had in 2023.
This is Swinney’s 17th full season as HC at Clemson (he went 4-3 as interim HC after taking over for Tommy Bowden in 2008). The Tigers have fallen short of nine wins only once – when they went 6-7 in his second year in 2010 – during Swinney’s tenure.
