According to a report from On3’s Pete Nakos, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck entered the transfer portal on Thursday with a no contact tag.
Beck declared for the NFL Draft last month, but he changed course yesterday and committed to Miami today.
Multiple reports on Thursday indicated that the Hurricanes were the front runners to sign Beck, who sustained a season-ending elbow injury in UGA’s overtime win over Texas at the SEC Championship Game. Beck had surgery on his elbow before Christmas and won’t be able to resume throwing again until some point in March.
Beck, who arrived in Athens in 2020, spent two seasons as Georgia’s starting QB. In 2023, he led the Bulldogs to a 13-1 record and a 63-3 win over FSU in the Orange Bowl.
Beck completed 72.4 percent of his throws for 3,941 yards with a 24/6 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He added four rushing TDs as well.
In 13 games this past year, Beck connected on 64.7 percent of his passes for 3,485 yards with a 28/12 TD-INT ratio.
The 6-foot-4 signal caller played in 39 career games for UGA, completing 68.0 percent of his passes for 7,912 yards with a 58/20 TD-INT ratio. He has 245 career rushing yards, five TDs and a 1.9 yards-per-carry average.
Back in August, many considered Beck to likely be a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and potentially the No. 1 overall selection. But he threw three interceptions in a 41-34 loss at Alabama and was picked off three times in a win at Texas.
Beck pulled another hat trick in a win over Florida when the Gators intercepted him three times. However, in UGA’s last three regular-season contests, Beck had 11 TD passes without an interception.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. had Beck fifth in a recent installment of his 2025 NFL Draft QB rankings. (Kiper’s updated Big Board from this morning doesn’t include Beck.)
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Thursday that his sources inside Beck’s camp told him the QB received feedback from the NFL that he could be drafted anywhere from the first round to the third round. The elbow injury obviously complicated matters.
Beck wasn’t going to be able to perform at the NFL Combine and will most likely miss spring practice in Coral Gables.
Beck will replace Cam Ward, who finished fourth in the voting to win the Heisman Trophy. Once again, the Hurricanes have demonstrated that they are toward the top of the food chain in terms of offering elite players lucrative NIL deals.
On3 and 247Sports both had Beck as a four-star transfer who was the #1 overall player in the portal.
