Boston College (3-1 straight up, 3-1 against the spread) star quarterback Thomas Castellanos is ‘out’ of Saturday’s home game vs. Western Ky.
Castellanos sustained the injury in last week’s 23-19 win over Michigan St. Florida International transfer Grayson James will get the starting nod against the Hilltoppers.
Castellanos has completed 45-of-70 passes (64.3%) for 729 yards with a 10/2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He also has 112 rushing yards and one TD.
In 2023, the transfer from UCF connected on 189-of-330 throws (57.3%) for 2,248 yards with a 15/14 TD-INT ratio. He had 1,113 rushing yards, 13 TDs and a 5.2 yards-per-carry average.
Castellanos led BC to a 23-14 win over SMU at last year’s Wasabi Fenway Bowl by scoring on a 15-yard TD run and a 14-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. He was named the bowl’s ‘Offensive MVP.’
The Eagles finished 7-6 in 2023.
James played in 11 games for FIU in 2022, completing 58.7 percent of his passes for 1,969 yards with an 11/11 TD-INT ratio. He also had 223 rushing yards and three TDs.
In just three games last season for the Golden Panthers, James connected on 51.4 percent of his passes for 218 yards and one TD compared to one pick. He had one rushing TD.
Before BC announced the news earlier today, most betting shops had the Eagles as 12.5 or 13-point home favorites vs. Western Ky. After the news dropped, the line moved to eight at most spots. The total moved from 54.5 points down to 49.5.
The Hilltoppers are now +250 on the money line.
BC plays at Virginia next week before its open date.
