Auburn (3-3 straight up, 2-3-1 against the spread) senior running back Damari Alston is no longer with the program, head coach Hugh Freeze said Monday.
Since Alston has only played four games this season, he can still redshirt and have one more year of eligibility at another school in 2026. He was limited to nine rushing yards on seven attempts in Saturday’s 20-10 home loss to Georgia.
Alston had 84 rushing yards and one touchdown on 16 attempts in Auburn’s 38-24 Week 1 win at Baylor. However, his touches and production have diminished since then.
Alston had three catches for 24 receiving yards but just 25 rushing yards on seven totes in a 24-17 loss at Oklahoma last month. For the season, he has 128 rushing yards, one TD and a 4.0 yards-per carry average to go with four receptions for 29 yards.
“Damari failed to meet the expectations and standards of our program. We love him. Wish him the best,” Freeze told the media Monday.
RB Jeremiah Cobb has emerged as AU’s featured back. He has 453 rushing yards, four TDs and a 6.5 YPC average.
Alston had his best year on The Plains in 2023 as a sophomore, rushing for 320 yards and two TDs with a 5.0 YPC average. He added six catches for 53 yards.
In 38 career games, Alston has 809 rushing yards, six TDs and a 5.0 YPC average. He’s also hauled in 19 career receptions for 143 yards.
Auburn will try to snap its three-game losing streak Saturday when it hosts Missouri on Saturday night at 7:45 p.m. Eastern. As of late Monday night, most spots had Missouri listed as a 1.5-point road favorite at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The total was 43.5 points.
