According to a press release from the school, North Carolina (19-5 straight up, 13-11 against the spread) star freshman forward Caleb Wilson has a fracture in his left hand.
“The evaluation process is ongoing to determine the timetable for Wilson’s return.”
Wilson is one of the nation’s premier players, averaging 19.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocked shots per game. The 6-foot-10 phenom has made 57.8 percent of his field-goal attempts and 71.3 percent of his free throws through 24 games.
Wilson sustained the injury in the first half of Tuesday’s 75-66 loss at Miami. Initial X-rays taken during the game came back negative, and Wilson played in the second half.
However, additional imaging done back in Chapel Hill revealed the fracture. Wilson has set UNC freshman records by producing 17 20-point games and scoring in double figures in the first 24 games of his career.
In 26 minutes against the Hurricanes, Wilson had 12 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots. He helped the Tar Heels upset Duke as 6.5-point home underdogs this past Saturday by hitting 8-of-12 shots from the field in a 23-point effort.
FanDuel has UNC with 60/1 odds to win the 2026 NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels have +1500 (or 15/1) odds to make the Final Four.
UNC is #25 in the NET rankings and #28 at KenPom. The Tar Heels are back in action Saturday when they host Pittsburgh.
