TCU (5-4 straight up, 2-7 against the spread) guard Frankie Collins will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a broken foot last week. According to multiple reports, he’ll undergo surgery on Tuesday.
Collins has led the Horned Frogs in scoring (11.2 points per game), assists (4.4 APG) and steals (1.9 SPG) through the first nine games of the season. He’s also TCU’s third-leading rebounder, pulling down 4.4 RPG.
Jamie Dixon’s team has been to three consecutive NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the Round of 32 twice before falling in the first round of last year’s event. However, that streak is in jeopardy this season, especially now that the Frogs won’t have Collins anymore.
Collins was the catalyst in TCU’s best win of the season, a 76-72 victory over Xavier as a one-point home favorite on Dec. 5. The Arizona St. transfer had 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists compared to just one turnover against the Musketeers, who are #60 in KenPom’s rankings as of this morning.
TCU is #88 at KenPom and #93 in the NET rankings. Dixon’s team is 0-1 on the road, 0-3 in games on a neutral court, 0-1 vs. Quad-1 opponents and 1-2 versus Q2 foes.
TCU is the third stop for Collins in his collegiate career. He averaged 2.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 APG as a true freshman at Michigan in 2021-22. Collins started once in 31 games for the Wolverines, averaging 11.0 minutes per contest.
The Sacramento native left Ann Arbor and transferred to Arizona St. ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. Collins started 34 of 35 games for the Sun Devils as a sophomore, averaging 9.7 points, 4.3 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.3 SPG.
As a junior for ASU last season, Collins started all 32 games, averaging 13.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 SPG. He’s started 76 times in 107 career contests, averaging 9.1 PPG.
Collins has a 336/215 career assist-to-turnover ratio.
TCU returns to the court tonight when it hosts South Alabama. As of this morning, most books had the Frogs installed as 12.5-point home favorites with a total of 136.5. The Jaguars were +650 on the money line at Caesars.
