Notre Dame’s Braeden Shrewsberry will miss the rest of the season due to a lower abdomen strain.
Braeden, the son of head coach Micah Shrewsberry, is the Fighting Irish’s third-leading scorer. He paces Notre Dame in average minutes played, logging 34.7 minutes per game.
Shrewsberry averages 14.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. The freshman guard has hit 41.3 percent of his field-goal attempts, 36.9 percent of his 3-pointers and 82.9 percent of his free throws.
Without Shrewsberry the last two games, Notre Dame (12-16 straight up, 11-15-2 against the spread) beat Pitt 76-72 as a three-point home underdog. It was a different story Wednesday night when the Fighting Irish lost an 83-68 decision at Clemson. The Tigers took the cash as 14-point home favorites.
In the losing effort, Markus Burton led Notre Dame with 30 points, four rebounds and five assists without a turnover. Tae Davis finished with 15 points, and five boards.
Going back to Feb. 1, Shrewsberry’s third team in South Bend has completely fallen apart. Notre Dame has lost six of its last eight games, starting with a total meltdown in Coral Gables.
Miami was on a 10-game losing streak and trailed the Irish 36-25 at halftime. The Hurricanes rallied, though, winning 63-57 as 7.5-point home underdogs.
It was as if Miami passed its non-covering expertise – it entered the game on a 1-10 ATS slide – to Notre Dame on that Saturday night in South Florida.
The Irish’s ATS slump was extended to 0-7 after getting trounced 97-73 by SMU at Joyce Center on Feb. 19. They’re on a 1-8 ATS skid going into Saturday’s ACC showdown at Wake Forest.
