Ben Fawkes, formerly of ESPN Chalk and VSIN, has landed a new gig at Yahoo Sports covering the sports betting beat.
Fawkes reported Tuesday that a BetMGM gambler placed $100,000 on the Florida Gators (27-4 straight up, 23-8 against the spread) to win the 2025 NCAA Tournament at +900 (or 9/1) odds. BetMGM promptly adjusted UF’s odds to +600.
Fawkes also noted that Duke is BetMGM’s biggest liability in terms of future bets.
Todd Golden’s team is 9-1 both straight up and against the spread in its last 10 games, winning those nine contests by margins of 19, 5, 19, 14, 22, 21, 13, 9 and 11 points.
Like I’ve pointed out many times in my articles the last few months, I got a future bet down on UF at 35/1 in mid-December. I remain bullish on the Gators, who will await the winner of Missouri vs. the to-be-determined winner of tonight’s LSU vs. Mississippi St. game.
UF will play the first game of Friday’s evening session in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. I’m not just waiting for the Big Boy Tournament next week to have action on the Gators, though.
I’m already down on Florida for three units for a +260 payout to win Sunday’s SEC Tournament finals.
As you can see from my recent tweets, my confidence is high on the Gators, who are seeking their third national championship in program history.
Remember, Florida led by double digits for most of the second half in a 90-81 win at Auburn when star guard Alijah Martin was in street clothes nursing a hip pointer. UF just won at Alabama last week, beat Tennessee by 30 points back in January and has 22 wins by 11 points or more.
In other words, who the hell wants some?!
