The 2020 college football season concluded when No. 1 Alabama pulled away from No. 3 Ohio State in Monday night’s title game.
On Tuesday, the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas released odds for the 2022 College Football Playoff winner. The favorite should come as no surprise to anyone — Alabama is priced as a 9/5 ‘chalk.’
The Crimson Tide opened at 6/1 to win the title this season, with Clemson (9/4) and Ohio State (3/1) priced ahead of them. All three teams made the four-team playoff, but Alabama was clearly the best team in the nation this year.
Georgia had the fourth-shortest odds at 8/1 going into this season. The Bulldogs have opened at 5/1 in next year’s market. They return quarterback JT Daniels, who burst onto the scene at the midway point of this past season.
Georgia is joined by Clemson and Ohio State at the 5/1 price-point. The Tigers and Buckeyes will both be replacing their starting quarterbacks, but they are expected to have plenty of firepower.
The only other team inside of 25/1 is Oklahoma, who is priced at 8/1. Quarterback Spencer Rattler is the early +300 ‘chalk’ to win the Heisman Trophy and the Sooners finished the season on a hot streak.
Longshot options in the title market include LSU (25/1), Iowa State (40/1) and Texas A&M (50/1). The Aggies finished at No. 4 in the final AP Top 25 poll, but quarterback Kellen Mond declared for the NFL draft last week.
