Week 5 Look-Ahead Lines: ‘Bama -14.5 vs. Ole Miss

As of Thursday afternoon on Sept. 23, DraftKings had Jerrion Ealy and the Rebels as 14.5-point underdogs at Alabama in Week 5.

DraftKings has released its Week 5 look-ahead lines. The marquee game on next Saturday’s slate is Ole Miss at Alabama.

Lane Kiffin and the Rebels enjoy an open date this weekend, so The Lane Train has two weeks to scheme up ballplays for the Crimson Tide.

When Nick Saban’s squad went to Oxford last year, college football fans were treated to one of the more entertaining games of the season. There were six ties and neither team led by more than seven points until Alabama went ahead 56-45 on a 14-yard touchdown run by eventual Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith with 3:16 remaining.

Ole Miss quickly responded with a seven-play, 64-yard drive that ended with a 29-yard field goal by Luke Logan to cut the deficit to 56-48 with 1:29 left. Najee Harris added a 39-yard TD run and Alabama prevailed by a 63-48 count.

Alabama had a 37-31 advantage in first downs and a 723-647 advantage in total yards, but Ole Miss easily covered the number as a 23-point home underdog. This time around, the former Alabama offensive coordinator brings his Rebels to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa with an undefeated 3-0 record both straight up and against the spread.

Ole Miss has two weeks to prepare, while Alabama will be playing its fifth game in five weeks. The Tide hosts So. Miss this Saturday as a 45-point home ‘chalk.’ When Saban’s team have been favored by 43.5 points or more during his dynatic 15-year tenure, it has limped to a 2-10 ATS record.

On Wednesday night, DraftKings sent out Alabama (3-0 SU, 1-2 ATS) as a 17.5-point home favorite vs. the Rebels, who are road underdogs for just second time on Kiffin’s watch. However, the Tide was down to -17 this morning and as of Thursday afternoon, the number has dropped to -16. UPDATE: And now ‘Bama is down to -14.5 as of 4:05 p.m. Eastern on 9/23.

Ole Miss won 42-41 at Kentucky in overtime last season as a 6.5-point underdog.

The other look-ahead numbers from DraftKings include Notre Dame -1 vs. Cincinnati, TCU -1 vs. Texas, LSU -3 vs. Auburn, Wisconsin -4 vs. Michigan and UCLA -3.5 vs Arizona St.
