-Alabama at Florida: The Crimson Tide has won seven straight head-to-head meetings against the Gators, but only one of those games has been in Gainesville. ‘Bama QB Bryce Young is making his first career road start at The Swamp, which is a dangerous proposition. This is the first trip to Gainesville for a top-ranked team since Ken Dorsey and the Miami Hurricanes visited in 2002. The Gators are 1-0-1 against the spread as double-digit underdogs during Dan Mullen’s tenure. They’re most likely going to be without LB Ventrell Miller, who led UF in tackles and was a third-team All-SEC selection in 2020. The Tide outscored UF by a 52-46 count in Atlanta on Dec. 19 at the SECCG. UF’s Anthony Richardson (hamstring) reportedly practiced Monday and Tuesday. Alabama LB Will Anderson (knee) reportedly practiced Tuesday. Anderson remains ‘questionable,’ while Richardson has been upgraded to ‘probable.’
-Auburn at Penn St.: The timing of the James Franklin-to-USC rumors are perfect for Auburn. Can Bo Nix snap out of his funk in road games? He’s a junior now with 26 career starts under his belt. We shall see.
-Fresno St. at UCLA: The Bruins have had two weeks to prepare for the Bulldogs, who took Oregon to the wire at Autzen Stadium two weeks ago.
-Tulane at Ole Miss: The Green Wave have to travel for the third straight week. Nevertheless, Willie Fritz’s team has a dynamite QB in Michael Pratt, who is going to present lots of challenges for a Rebels’ defense that still has a lot to prove.
-Arizona St. at BYU: The Cougars take aim at another Pac-12 South power one week after beating arch-rival Utah. ASU’s Jayden Daniels has a 24/4 career touchdown-to-interception ratio and seven career rushing TDs.
-South Carolina at Georgia: Georgia TE Darnell Washington and DB Tykee Smith are ‘doubtful,’ while QB JT Daniels remains ‘questionable’ with an oblique issue. Daniels’ backup, Stetson Bennett, who threw for five TD passes without an interception in a blowout home win over UAB, is also ‘questionable’ (back spasms). South Carolina QB Luke Doty is expected to make his season debut.
-Nebraska at Oklahoma: Old-school rivalry gets renewed, but these certainly aren’t the same ol’ Cornhuskers these days.
-Cincinnati at Indiana: The Hoosiers get a chance to redeem themselves after getting torched at Iowa in their season opener. The Bearcats are hoping to drill IU for torching their strength of strength of schedule with its dismal showing against the Hawkeyes. Luke Fickell’s club gets an open date next to prepare for an Oct. 2 trip to South Bend.
-Michigan St. at Miami: The ‘Canes dodged an upset bid from App. St. last week. Can they avoid another against the new-look Spartans?
-Va. Tech at West Virginia: The Hokies lost TE James Mitchell to a season-ending injury in last week’s 35-14 home win over Middle Tennessee. WVU can’t afford another loss with a road game at Oklahoma on deck.
-Utah at San Diego St.: The Aztecs are 6-1-1 ATS in eight games as home underdogs since 2013. They might have to go with ex-Ga. Tech QB Lucas Johnson as their starter. QB Jordon Brookshire missed practice Monday and Tuesday and his availability is in doubt due to an injury. The Utes are in dire need of a win after dropping a 26-17 decision at BYU last Saturday.
-Oklahoma St. at Boise St.: The Cowboys are 15-9 ATS as road underdogs since October of 2007. Boise St. is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games as a home ‘chalk.’
-Nevada at Kansas St.: This game would’ve been Top-10 material if not for the injury to Skylar Thompson. He’s out indefinitely (but not for the season) due to a lower-body injury. Now Nevada has an enormous edge at the QB position with Carson Strong. K-St. backup QB Will Howard struggled mightily when Thompson went down last year, throwing eight TD passes compared to 10 interceptions.
