Reports: 23 Clemson football players test positive for COVID-19

According to multiple reports, 28 Clemson student-athletes/staff have tested positive for COVID-19. Twenty-three of those 28 are football players.

According to the school, two members of the Clemson football staff and three student-athletes from other sports tested positive. Three of the positive cases were announced last week, with 25 additional ones announced today.

The State reported that 315 tests have been administered to Clemson student-athletes and staff. Most of the cases have been asymptomatic and none of the 28 positive cases have resulted in hospitalizations.

Clemson football players and basketball players for the men’s and women’s teams arrived on campus on June 1. Voluntary workouts started on June 8 and will continue despite today’s news.

The players who tested positive will be isolated for at least 10 days, and they must be asymptomatic for the last three days to get out of isolation.

Many athletes were among an estimated group of 3,000 that held a peaceful protest six days ago.
