According to multiple reports Tuesday morning, the New York Giants have signed star running back Saquon Barkley to a one-year contract that’s worth up to $11 million. The deal includes a $2 million signing bonus.
Barkley will make $10.1 million in guaranteed money and there are $909,000 worth of bonuses that are equally split into three categories: 11 touchdowns, 65 catches and 1,350 rushing yards and a playoff berth.
The Penn St. product is off his best season heading into his sixth year with the Giants, who took Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He ran for a career-high 1,312 yards and 10 TDs in 2022, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Barkley also snagged 57 receptions for 338 yards.
Barkley has rushed for over 1,000 yards in three of his five seasons, and he’s played in at least 13 games four times. In 2020, he played only two games before going down with a season-ending injury.
Barkley has 4,249 career rushing yards, 29 TDs and a 4.5 YPC average. He also has 247 career catches for 1,820 yards and eight TDs.
New York made the playoffs for the first time since 2016 last year. In a 31-24 win at Minnesota in the NFC Wild Card Round, Barkley had 53 rushing yards and two TDs on just nine carries. He also produced five receptions for 56 yards.
In a 38-7 loss at Philadelpha in the NFC semifinals, Barkley had 61 rushing yards on nine totes and caught two balls for 21 yards.
