The Baltimore Ravens released veteran kicker Justin Tucker on Monday, bringing his spectacular tenure with the organization to an end while he’s the subject of an NFL investigation into alleged sexual misconduct.
“Sometimes football decisions are incredibly difficult, and this is one of those instances,” Ravens executive vice president and general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement. “Considering our current roster, we have made the tough decision to release Justin Tucker.
“Justin created many significant and unforgettable moments in Ravens history. His reliability, focus, drive, resilience and extraordinary talent made him one of the league’s best kickers for over a decade. We are grateful for Justin’s many contributions while playing for the Ravens. We sincerely wish him and his family the very best in this next chapter of their lives.”
The writing has been on the wall since the third day of the 2025 NFL Draft when Baltimore picked kicker Tyler Loop with its sixth-round selection.
According to the Baltimore Banner, the 35-year-old Tucker stands accused of sexual misconduct by 16 different massage therapists from eight spas and wellness centers in the Baltimore area. All of the alleged incidents took place between 2012 and 2016.
The Banner reported in January that two spas banned him from returning to their facility. Tucker has denied the accusations, calling them “unequivocally false” and dubbed the Banner’s reporting as “desperate tabloid fodder.” Tucker’s attorneys have denied that he was banned from two spas.
The NFL began its probe into Tucker’s conduct in February. The league has said it will not provide any updates until the investigation is completed.
The seven-time Pro-Bowler was the longest-tenured Raven and last player remaining from the 2012 team that beat San Francisco in the Super Bowl. Tucker holds the best field-goal percentage rate in NFL history (89.1%) and made the longest kick in league history, a 66-yard game-winner at Detroit in 2021.
But Tucker is coming off the worst season of his career. He made merely 22-of-30 FGAs (73.3%) and missed a pair of extra points.
Tucker especially struggled with his range. He made all 11 of his field goals from inside of 40 yards, but he hit just 5-of-8 from 40-49 yards and 6-of-11 from 50-plus yards.
Tucker’s worst previous field-goal percentage came in 2015 when he hit 33-of-40 FGAs (82.5%).
During Baltimore’s Super Bowl run in 2012, Tucker made all four of his FGAs in the playoffs and buried 16-of-16 extra points. In the Ravens’ last three trips to the postseason from 2022-24, he converted all six of his FGAs and all 12 of his PATs.
Loop played five seasons at the University of Arizona. He was perfect during his second season in 2021, making 12-of-12 FGAs and all 12 of his extra points.
In 2022, Loop buried 18-of-21 FGAs (85.7%) and all 38 PATs. He scored a career-best 110 points in 2023 when he was good on 19-of-24 FGAs (79.2%) and 53-of-53 extra points.
In 2024, Loop showed improved range by nailing 6-of-9 FGAs from 50-plus yards, including a career-long 62-yarder. He finished the year with 18-of-23 makes (78.3%) on FGAs and hitting 23-of-25 PATs.
Loop served as only a punter in his first year during the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. He punted 24 times and averaged 43.0 yards per punt with a long of 64. He didn’t punt again until this past year when he was used four times and averaged 41.8 yards per punt.
In a report from the Banner back on Jan. 30, six massage therapists said Tucker exposed his genitals to them, two of them claimed he brushed them with his exposed penis and three said he left semen on the massage tables after his treatments.
