The Los Angeles Rams struck a trade today with the Kansas City Chiefs, who sent 25-year-old cornerback Trent McDuffie to L.A. for four draft picks.
Andy Reid’s team receives the Rams’ first, fifth and sixth-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, in addition to their 2027 third-round pick. Kansas City lands the #29 overall pick with L.A.’s first-round selection next month.
McDuffie was the Chiefs’ first-round pick with the #21 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft. As a rookie, the University of Washington product played in 11 regular-season games, recording 44 tackles, seven passes broken up, one forced fumble and one sack.
McDuffie added 15 tackles, three PBU, one tackle for loss and one forced fumble in three postseason games, as Kansas City defeated Philadelphia 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII.
In 16 regular-season outings in 2023, McDuffie contributed 80 tackles, nine QB Hits, seven PBU, five forced fumbles and three sacks. He was named a first-team All-Pro.
McDuffie helped the Chiefs win another Super Bowl by producing 12 tackles, seven PBU, two tackles for loss, two QB Hits and one fumble recovery in four postseason games.
McDuffie played in 16 regular-season contests again in 2024. He recorded 59 tackles, 13 PBU, six TFL’s, four QB Hits, two interceptions, one forced fumble and 0.5 sacks.
McDuffie added 13 tackles and three PBU in three playoff games. He was named a second-team All-Pro and finished #22 in voting for AP Defensive Player of the Year honors.
McDuffie played in 13 games this past season. He had 63 tackles, seven PBU, two TFL’s, one sack, one QB Hit, one forced fumble and one interception.
Kansas City exercised McDuffie’s fifth-year option on his rookie contract last April, making his 2026 salary guaranteed for $13.6 million. The Rams are expected to sign him to a long-term extension.
McDuffie returns home to Southern California, where he played at St. John Bosco High School. When he was at Washington, he played for the Huskies’ former head coach Jimmy Lake, who is now the Rams’ defensive backs coach.
The Rams still have a first-round pick, the #13 overall selection from the Falcons. Those teams made a deal during the 2025 NFL Draft, resulting in Atlanta taking DE James Pearce out of Tennessee.
