Going into Wednesday’s quartet of Game 5’s in the NBA Playoffs, the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas has Brooklyn listed as a +175 favorite to win the NBA Finals.
The Nets advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals by disposing of Boston in five games. Steve Nash’s club ended the series last night with a 123-109 win over the Celtics as a 12.5-point home favorite.
Utah, Atlanta and Philadelphia will try to advance to the next round with wins tonight. The Jazz have the next-shortest odds (9/2 or +450) behind the Nets.
Utah’s future number is followed by Milwaukee (+600), the L.A. Clippers (+700), Philadelphia (10/1), Phoenix (12/1), the L.A. Lakers (12/1), Denver (18/1), Atlanta (30/1), Portland (60/1) and Dallas (80/1).
The Westgate also opened Brooklyn as a 4.5-point favorite for Saturday’s Game 1 vs. Milwaukee. Since then, the line has dropped down to -4. The Bucks lost 125-123 at Brooklyn earlier in the season, only to bounce back and beat the Nets twice at home by scores of 117-114 and 124-118.
Milwaukee is 0-3 both straight up and against the spread in three games as an underdog this year. However, the first two underdog spots came at home vs. Charlotte and New York when Mike Budenholzer rested his entire starting five. The other non-cover — the only ‘dog situation of the season when the Bucks were at full strength — came in a loss at Utah.
Brooklyn is -220 for the series price, leaving the Bucks at +190 on the comeback.
The biggest liability for several books in terms of future bets is the Atlanta Hawks. Another large wager was placed on Nate McMillan’s club last week, as BetMGM took $7,000 on Atlanta to win it all at 80/1 odds (for a $560,000 return).
