QB News: KJ to UCF, DJU to FSU and Ward to NFL Draft

Before the College Football Playoff kicked off in Pasadena today, there was plenty of quarterback news in college football.

Former Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson is transferring to UCF, ex-Clemson and Oregon St. QB D.J. Uiagalelei is headed to Florida St. and former Washington St. QB Cam Ward is off to the 2024 NFL Draft.

Jefferson, a 6-foot-3, 247-pounder, was at Arkansas for five years from 2019-23 and had been the Razorbacks’ starter since 2021. He has completed 626-of-962 passes (65.1%) for 7,923 yards with a 67/18 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Jefferson also has 1,876 career rushing yards, 21 TDs and a 3.6 yards-per-carry average. His 9,787 career total yards are the 18th-most in SEC history and his 88 career TDs rank 14th in SEC annals.

In 2023, Jefferson connected on 64.2 percent of his throws for 2,107 yards with a 19/8 TD-INT ratio. He added 447 rushing yards and two TDs.

Jefferson will have one year of eligibility remaining for the Knights, who finished 2023 with a 6-7 straight-up record and a 5-7-1 against-the-spread mark. They lost a 30-17 decision vs. Ga. Tech as six-point favorites on Dec. 22 at the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa.

FanDuel has UCF’s odds to win the 2024-25 CFP at 400/1.

Uiagalelei will return to the ACC to replace Jordan Travis in Mike Norvell’s offense at FSU. Uiagalelei, a five-star prospect out of high school who played at Clemson from 2020-22, spent this year at Oregon St. and helped the Beavers post an 8-4 record in the regular season.

Uiagalelei completed 180-of-315 passes (57.1%) for 2,638 yards with a 21/7 TD-INT ratio. In 47 career games, he has a 59.1 completion percentage, 8,319 passing yards with a 57/24 TD-INT ratio. Uiagalelei also has 1,132 rushing yards, 21 TDs and a 3.3 YPC average.

FSU has the ninth-shortest odds (18/1) to win the 2024-25 CFP at FanDuel.

Ward had entered the transfer portal and declared for the NFL Draft a few weeks ago. Then in a post on X today, he released a video that seemed to indicate that he was no longer considering returning to college.
