East Carolina senior cornerback Shavon Revel tore the ACL in his left knee at practice this past Wednesday and is out for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Revel recorded 55 tackles, 11 passes broken up, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery for a touchdown and one interception in 2023. In ECU’s first three games this year, he contributed eight tackles, two PBU, two interceptions, one pick-six and one tackle for loss.
Without Revel, the Pirates lost 35-24 at unbeaten Liberty as 7.5-point road underdogs on Saturday. The Flames covered the spread for the first time this season, and the 59 combined points went ‘over’ the 55-point total.
ECU fell to 2-2 both straight up and against the spread. The ‘under’ is now 3-1 for the Pirates, who open American Athletic Conference play Saturday when they host UTSA.
Revel was a preseason first-team All-AAC selection and a fourth-team All-American in Phil Steele’s magazine.
In Mel Kiper’s latest Big Board rankings filed to ESPN on Sept. 19, he had Revel as the #2 cornerback in the 2025 NFL Draft. ESPN’s Jordan Reid has Revel ranked as the #14 overall prospect.
Revel didn’t arrive at ECU until 2022. He initially played at Louisburg Junior College in North Carolina, where he worked the night shift an Amazon facility.
Revel got a scholarship offer from ECU after attending its summer camp and running a 4.4 40-yard dash.
The 6-foot-3 Revel, who weighs 193 pounds, earned second-team All-AAC honors in 2023. Nevertheless, he remained at ECU despite overtures from SEC and Big Ten teams with NIL money to spend.
In 24 career games at ECU from 2022-24, Revel produced 70 tackles, 15 PBU, five TFL’s, three interceptions, one sack, one pick-six and one fumble recovery that he returned for a TD.
As of Monday morning, most books had East Carolina installed as a four-point home favorite vs. UTSA. The total was 53.5 or 54 points.
