Vandy’s Collins to miss at least a few weeks

Vanderbilt has been one of the biggest surprises in college basketball this season, posting a 13-0 straight-up record and an 8-5 against-the-spread mark.

However, the Commodores are going to be without one of their best players for at least a few weeks, as 6-foot-1 guard Frankie Collins has a knee injury.

Vandy head coach Mark Byington has refuted a report from On3’s Joe Tipton, who was told by a source that Collins would be out indefinitely with a torn meniscus.

“There’s been some misconstrued information about Frankie’s injury,” Byington said in a radio interview before Vandy’s 96-53 win over New Haven last night. “It’s not as bad as what I saw was put out there. He won’t be out as long as they said out there.”

In nine regular-season games, Collins is averaging 7.8 points, 4.7 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. He has a 42/20 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Tyler Tanner led the way for the Commodores on Monday against the Chargers, producing 23 points, five rebounds, three steals, one blocked shot and seven assists compared to only one turnover. Jalen Washington added 21 points, five boards and two blocked shots while hitting 9-of-11 field-goal attempts.

Tyler Harris finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots, three steals and a pair of assists, and Devin McGlockton had 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Vandy is ranked #7 in the NET rankings and #8 at KenPom. The Commodores will open SEC play at South Carolina on Saturday.

FanDuel has Vandy with 30/1 odds to win the 2026 NCAA Tournament. Those are tied for the 11th-shortest odds on the board.

The Commodores have +750 odds to make the Final Four for the first time in program history at FanDuel, which has them with as +270 ‘chalk’ to win the SEC’s regular-season title.
