NIT Betting Prediction: VCU at South Florida

NIT Betting Prediction: VCU at South Florida

Published on Friday, 3/22/24. Updated on Saturday, 3/23/24.

As of late Saturday night, most betting shops had South Florida (25-7 straight up, 21-8-3 against the spread) installed as a three-point home favorite vs. VCU in Sunday’s second-round showdown in the National Invitational Tournament. The total was 142.5 points, while the Bulls were -160 on the money line.

VCU (23-13 SU, 21-14-1 ATS) had +140 odds to win outright.

USF is 15-2 SU and 13-3-1 ATS in 17 home games this year, while VCU is 6-4 SU and 8-2 ATS in 10 road assignments.

The Bulls are 23-3 SU and 19-4-3 ATS in their last 26 contests since thumping FSU 88-72 on Dec. 9. They’re off an 83-77 win at UCF as six-point road underdogs.

Amir Abdur-Rahim’s team has won seven of its eight games played against opponents ranked in KenPom’s Top 100. Meanwhile, VCU is 10-11 in 21 games versus foes in KenPom’s Top 100.

VCU went 1-6 in seven games against teams that made the NCAA Tournament field and has lost in three of its last four road assignments.

USF has won 13 home games in a row while posting an 11-1-1 ATS record. The Bulls have won by at least three points in all 13 of those wins, and they’ve won by eight points or more in nine of those contests.

The ‘over’ has hit in three straight USF games and five of its last six, but it has seen the ‘under’ go 19-13 overall.

The ‘under’ has prevailed in five consecutive VCU games to improve to 21-15 overall.

Tip-off for VCU-USF is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPNU.

PREDICTION: I like USF -3 for two units and USF -1.5 in the first half for 0.5 units. I also like a baby play on the Bulls to win the NIT at 25/1 odds.
