The NBA’s super team era is alive and well.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant are discussing a potential partnership with either the Los Angeles Clippers or the New York Knicks.
Throughout this process, Durant reportedly has considered teaming up with Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn or staying with the Golden State Warriors.
The Knicks, once the favorite to land Durant, had faded in recent projections prior to this report.
As for Leonard, NBA insiders have admitted they’re unsure what he or his camp is thinking ahead of free agency. However, most believed he would be choosing between the Clippers and Raptors when free agency opens on June 30.
Leonard also is expected to meet with the Lakers, per Woj. In that scenario, he would team up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, further cementing Los Angeles as the NBA title favorites in 2020.
The Lakers are currently as low as +120 to win the title next season, according to ESPN’s Ben Fawkes.
The Knicks (+3300) and Clippers (+1000) aren’t amongst the favorites on Bovada as of Saturday.
Durant will miss all of next season as he recovers from a torn Achilles, so his signing may not have a major impact on next season’s futures. However, Leonard’s presence gives any team a chance, especially since a new dominant team has yet to emerge.
Free agency is set to open at 6 p.m. ET on June 30.
