Mikal Bridges is moving across town after being traded from Brooklyn to New York late Tuesday.

The move – the first time the Knicks and Nets have struck a deal since 1983 – comes at a steep price, though. The Knicks are sending Bojan Bogdanovic, five first-round picks, a first-round pick swap and a second-round selection to Brooklyn.

The Nets are getting New York’s unprotected first-round picks in 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031, and the unprotected pick swap is in 2028. Brooklyn also receives a top-four protected 2025 first-round selection and a 2025 second-round choice from Milwaukee.

The Knicks are getting back Bridges and Brooklyn’s 2026 second-round pick.

The 27-year-old Bridges is joining three of his former college teammates from Villanova in Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson and Donte DiVincenzo. That foursome won the 2016 national title and after Hart left for the pros, the other three won a second natty under Jay Wright in 2018.

Bridges spent his first five NBA years in Phoenix, starting all 22 postseason games for the Suns in their run to the 2021 NBA Finals before losing to Milwaukee. He averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

Bridges was traded to Brooklyn as a part of the Kevin Durant deal during the 2022-23 campaign. In his first 27 games for the Nets, he averaged 26.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 SPG.

Bridges started all 82 regular-season games for Brooklyn this past season, averaging 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.0 SPG.

According to multiple reports, Utah and Memphis were also in pursuit of Bridges earlier this week, but the Knicks offered the better package of picks in the end.

Also on Tuesday, the Nets struck a deal with Houston, which receives a 2025 first-round pick swap (via lesser out of Houston/OKC for Phoenix), a 2027 first-round selection (via Phoenix), a 2029 first-round pick (via more favorable choice out of Dallas and Phoenix) and a 2029 first-round swap (via less favorable out of Dallas or Phoenix).

In return, the Rockets give the Nets back their 2025 first-round swap and their 2026 first-round pick that was sent to Houston in the James Harden trade.

Brooklyn has obviously entered a massive rebuild, and it might not be done yet. The Nets have already acquired a total of 16 first-round picks through 2031, and they could add more by dealing Cam Johnson.

The 35-year-old Bogdanovic returns to Brooklyn (at least for now) after spending this past season with Detroit before a deadline trade to the Knicks. He averaged 15.2 PPG in 2023-24.

Bridges has two years remaining on his contract, but he’ll be eligible to sign a two-year extension on Oct. 1. The Knicks remain focused on re-signing both OG Anunoby and Isaiah Hartenstein.

Boston is the +300 ‘chalk.’ The next-shortest odds belong to Denver (+750), OKC (+900) and Minnesota (+950).
