Heat’s Jimmy Butler expected to miss several weeks

Ira Winderman, the long-time Miami Heat beat reporter for the South Florida Sun Sentinel, has reported that superstar Jimmy Butler isn’t getting an MRI on his right knee until 3:30 p.m. Eastern today.

Nevertheless, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Butler is going to be sidelined for several weeks after sustaining an MCL injury in last night’s 105-104 loss at Philadelphia in the NBA’s play-in tournament.

The Heat are facing elimination Friday night if they can’t knock off the Chicago Bulls at home. As of early Thursday afternoon, most books had Miami installed as a 1.5-point favorite with a total of 207.

Butler was injured late in the first quarter. Although he played through the injury for the rest of the game, he clearly wasn’t 100 percent. He was limited to 12 points and made merely 3-of-14 field-goal attempts after getting hurt.

In 60 games this year, the six-time All-Star selection is averaging 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He’s hit 49.9 percent of his FGAs, a career-best 41.4 percent of his 3-pointers and 85.8 percent of his free throws.
