Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert suffers possible stroke

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was hospitalized Sunday with “stroke-like symptoms,” according to a statement released by Quicken Loans.

At 57 years old, Gilbert is the founder and chairman of Quicken Loans, the majority owner of the Cavaliers, the owner of three other sports franchises and a big player in real estate in downtown Detroit.

“He received immediate medical attention and is currently recovering comfortably,” the statement said. His family has requested privacy, and details of his diagnosis and prognosis have not been made public.

Gilbert is involved in numerous initiatives across sports, business and politics. Forbes recently listed his net worth at $7.3 billion.

He helped the Cavaliers win an NBA championship in 2016, re-signing LeBron James two years earlier despite an acrimonious relationship stemming from James’ “The Decision” on July 1, 2010.

Most recently, he hired Michigan’s John Beilein to be the next coach of the Cavs.

At least one person indicated that Gilbert’s health issue is significant.

Cleveland Cavaliers fans will be monitoring the health of their owner, which could have a significant impact on the franchise going forward.
