NBA Notes: Warriors continue to dominate

Golden St.'s Steph Curry is averaging 27.6 points, 6.8 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game.

Golden State improved to 18-2 straight up and 15-4-1 against the spread with Sunday’s 105-90 win over the Clippers at Staples Center. The Warriors covered the number for the seventh straight game as three-point road favorites. They have the NBA’s best record both SU and ATS.

Steph Curry led the way with 33 points, six steals, six assists and five rebounds. He drained 7-of-13 attempts from 3-point range. Otto Porter Jr. added a season-high 18 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two assists, while Jordan Poole finished with 17 points.

Poole, the third-year wing out of Michigan, is enjoying a breakout campaign. He’s averaging 18.1 points per game and is making 91.8 percent of his free-throw attempts.

Steve Kerr’s team is No. 1 in the NBA in scoring defense (100.4 PPG) and field-goal percentage ‘D’ (41.9%). The Warriors are second in the NBA in both scoring (114.0 PPG) and FG percentage (47.9%).

Even worse for the rest of The Association, Golden St. will be getting Klay Thompson back in the next month. Andre Iguodala should also be healthy in the next couple of weeks.

Oklahoma City has been the next-best ATS team, cashing tickets at a 13-6 clip. The Thunder are also the second-best NBA team for betting the ‘under,’ which has a 13-6 overall record. Only New Orleans, a big-time ‘over’ squad the last couple of seasons, has a better ‘under’ ledger at 15-6-1. Golden St. has the third-best ‘under’ record (14-6).

OKC (6-13 SU) has lost five consecutive games, but it is on a 6-0 ATS run. The Thunder play at Houston tonight as a two-point underdog. Mark Daigneault’s club beat the Rockets 101-89 as a three-point home favorite on Nov. 17.

OKC has had two days of rest ahead of tonight’s game at Toyota Center. The Thunder lost a 101-99 decision to Washington as a 6.5-point home underdog on Friday.

Atlanta (11-10 SU, 9-12) has picked it up after a brutal start to the season, although its seven-game winning streak was snapped at home Saturday night. New York went into The ATL and captured a 99-90 win as an eight-point road underdog.

Even with the outright defeat, Atlanta is still on a 6-2 ATS run in its last eight outings. If you bet the Hawks before OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was ruled ‘out’ of their game on Nov. 22 about 30 minutes before tip, then you got a spread cover in their 113-101 win. They had been 11 to 11.5-point home favorites all day before SGA’s status was confirmed, prompting the line to move to 13.

Atlanta starting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic is expected to miss the next two weeks with a foot injury. ‘Bogi’ is averaging 11.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assits per game. He has an excellent 49/18 assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Hawks are also without De’Andre Hunter, who had surgery on his right wrist and will be gone until mid-January. Hunter was averaging 10.8 points and 2.7 RPG in his team’s first 11 games.

Onyeka Okongwu, the Hawks’ first-round pick with the sixth overall selection in the 2020 NBA Draft, had offseason shoulder surgery after a promising rookie campaign. His recovery is on schedule with a return in late December looking likely.

Trae Young has been the catalyst in the Hawks’ recent surge. He’s scored at least 30 points in four straight games. Young has also dished out at least nine assists in six of the last nine contests. The former Oklahoma Sooner is shooting at career-best clips from the field (46.5%), 3-point territory (39.4%) and the free-throw line (89.2%).

The Lakers have been the NBA’s best ‘over’ team to date with a 13-8-1 record. The ‘over’ has hit at a 12-8 pace for both the Grizzlies and the Heat.

However, there are only two other squads (and five total) who have ‘over’ records about .500. They’re Charlotte (12-10) and Toronto (12-9).

Miami and Cleveland share the NBA’s third-best ATS record (13-7). The Cavs are seven-point underdogs tonight at Dallas. They’re 6-3 ATS in nine road assignments, while the Mavericks are 3-5 ATS at home.

Portland (10-10 SU, 8-11-1 ATS) has been atrocious on the road, limping to a 1-9 record both SU and ATS. The Trail Blazers are 7.5-point road underdogs tonight at Utah.

The Jazz snapped a three-game losing streak both SU and ATS with Saturday’s 127-105 win over New Orleans as a 12.5-point home favorite. The ‘over’ is on a 5-1 run for Quinn Snyder’s team.

Toronto is going to be without veteran guard Goran Dragic for an indefinite period of time, according to a press release from the team on Sunday:

Dragic has only played in five games for the Raptors, averaging 8.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals per game.

The ‘over’ is on a 7-2 run for Toronto in its last nine games. The Raptors host Memphis on Tuesday.

In other injury news, Michael Porter Jr. is set to have back surgery.

Porter, the third-year Denver forward who was the No. 14 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, had an oustanding sophomore season last year. He averaged 19.0 points and 7.3 RPG while hitting 44.5 percent of his launches from long distance.

Porter has only played in nine games this year, averaging 9.9 points and 6.6 RPG. He’ll be out for an indefinite period of time.

Denver has lost six games in a row both SU and ATS going into tonight’s game at Miami. The Heat own a 6-1 record both SU and ATS in seven home games this season. The Nuggets are 2-6 both SU and ATS in eight road assignments.

Miami’s Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro were listed as ‘questionable’ early this afternoon. Denver star center Nikola Jokic is also ‘questionable’ due to a wrist injury. Jokic averages 26.4 points, 13.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.9 blocked shots per game.

The ‘over’ has cashed in four straight games for the Nuggets and six of their last seven.

Remember, Jokic and Markieff Morris had an incident when these teams played in The Mile High City on Nov. 8. Morris sustained a neck injury and still hasn’t returned to the court, so there could be some bad blood brewing in this one down in South Florida.
