These days, Jim ‘Mattress Mack’ McIngvale wants in on the action at all the big sporting events.
The Houston furniture salesman has become a household name in the sports betting industry over the last few years. His first splashes came by buying seven-figure future tickets on the Astros to hedge his special furniture deals offering his customers free products if the Astros won the World Series.
Since then, he’s made news by making enormous wagers on the Texans and other teams. In fact, McIngvale made the biggest reported Super Bowl wager, winning $3.46 million from FanDuel by backing Tampa Bay at +3.5 in its outright win over the Chiefs.
Now Mattress Mack has bought a monster ticket on Kelvin Sampson’s squad to cut the nets down in Indy in nine days.
Mattress Mack risked $1 million at DraftKings in hopes of winning $9 million.
Houston, the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region, had to go on a 14-2 run in the final minutes to advance past Rutgers with a 63-60 non-covering victory. The Cougars are listed as 6.5-point favorites vs. 11th-seeded Syracuse tonight at 9:55 p.m. Eastern.
The winner will face the survivor of Loyola-Chicago vs. Oregon St. on Monday for a berth in the Final Four.
