Intriguing boxing matchups between athletes not associated with the sport continue to pop up.
A pair of former All-Pro NFL running backs are going to face each other in the ring at Crypto.com Arena on July 30. Le’Veon Bell and Adrian Peterson—neither of whom are officially retired from football—will take place in a celebrity boxing match during a card called Social Gloves 2.
The bout will not count as an official boxing debut for either running back due to it being an exhibition. Peterson is currently a free agent after splitting time between Tennessee and Seattle last season. Bell is also a free agent after playing for Baltimore and Tampa Bay in 2021.
Offshore sportsbook BetOnline opened Bell as a -180 favorite to win the fight, pricing Peterson at +140. There has been some slight movement since the line opened, as Bell is -175/+135 as of Tuesday afternoon.
The fight will take place prior to a bout between YouTubers Austin McBroom and AnEsonGib, which is the main event.
DraftKings has different odds posted for this event, listing Bell 20 cents cheaper at -155. Peterson is priced at +125, so BOL has better odds on the underdog, who is seven years older than Bell.
This event follows the trend of intriguing fights between celebrities. Former All-Pro running back Frank Gore fought former NBA All-Star Deron Williams in December on the undercard of Jake Paul-Tyron Woodley 2.
Gore made his pro debut in May, picking up a fourth-round knockout. Rapper Blueface will fight former NBA player Nick Young on the undercard of this event as well. Paul has been in the boxing headlines of late as well, hoping to set up a date for a fight with UFC star Nate Diaz, who has one fight remaining on his UFC contract.
Diaz has not fought since last June, leading to recent tweets asking to be released from the UFC if he is not given a fight this summer. BetOnline has released odds for the potential bout between Diaz and Paul, making Diaz a hefty -250 favorite over the former YouTube star (+170).
The fight must occur in 2022 for the bet to have action.
