Former Arkansas safety Jalen Catalon announced where he’s going to be playing in 2023 on social media yesterday. The ex-Razorback is now a Longhorn, pledging to Texas and Steve Sarkisian’s program.
Catalon used a redshirt by playing in just four games as a true freshman in 2019. He recorded six tackles, one pass broken up a forced fumble.
Then in 2020, Catalon garnered first-team All-SEC honors and was named a Freshman All-American, producing 99 tackles, four PBU, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, two tackles for loss and one pick-six.
Catalon was on his way to All-SEC honors again in 2021, but he sustained a season-ending shoulder injury in the Hogs’ sixth game of the year. He had recorded 46 tackles, four PBU, two interceptions with 83 return yards, 1.5 TFL’s and one QB hurry.
In 2022, Catalon went down with another season-ending shoulder injury during a Week 1 home win over Cincinnati. He had eight tackles and one QB hurry against the Bearcats.
According to 247Sports, Texas has the nation’s third-best recruiting class for 2023. In terms of transfer-specific imports, the Longhorns are ranked 40th.
Catalon, a four-star prospect out of high school who is also ranked as a four-star in 247Sports’ transfer rankings, is the third player to commit to UT from out of the portal. He joins ex-Wake Forest cornerback Gavin Holmes and former Stanford punter Ryan Sanborn.
Holmes is a four-star transfer and Sanborn is a three-star transfer.
FanDuel has Texas listed with 20/1 odds to win the 2023-24 College Football Playoff. That leaves the Longhorns tied with a slew of teams — FSU, LSU, Tennessee and Penn State — for the seventh-shortest odds. Georgia is the +300 ‘chalk’ to win its third consecutive national championship.
