The ‘under’ is 8-2 overall for Virginia, as the Cavaliers are ranked No. 1 in the nation in both scoring defense (44.2 points per game) and field-goal percentage defense (32.1%).
Tony Bennett’s team is ranked 11th in the country at defending the 3-point line, forcing foes to make merely 26.4 percent of their treys.
Virginia can’t score and that’s not helped by the continued absence of Braxton Key, UVA’s second-leading scorer who remains out with an injury. The Cavs are ranked No. 352 out of 353 teams in scoring with their pedestrian 53.8 PPG average. They’re No. 351 in 3-point shooting percentage (25.4%).
UVA’s combined scores have been 109 points or fewer in nine of its 10 games.
South Carolina is ranked No. 21 nationally in FG-percentage defense (37.9%). The Gamecocks are terrible at shooting 3-pointers, making only 28.8 percent to rank No. 321 in the country.
Also, they’re awful at the free-throw line, making just 60.7 percent of their attempt from the charity stripe. Let’s go with ‘under’ 113 points in this 3:00 p.m. ET. showdown in Charlottesville.
