The conversation topic was college football, with Pat starting the interview with a question about the possibility of Florida St. joining the SEC. Brian, a Florida alum, didn’t disappoint by taking an immediate shot at the Seminoles “from off the top rope.”
Next, the gang jumped into some SEC conversation, hitting on the season win totals for the local schools, Alabama and Auburn. Brian wasn’t willing to concede that Nick Saban’s team is going to go undefeated. He thinks the Ole Miss game sets up as problematic, as the Rebels get two weeks to prepare while the Crimson Tide has to travel for a second time in two weeks after playing at LSU.
Nevertheless, Brian thinks Alabama goes ‘over’ 10.5 wins, but he doesn’t like the big price attached to the Crimson Tide (-250-280 range). He isn’t willing to lay expensive prices like that ever, especially not on a wager that ties up cash for four months.
Brian thinks 6-6 is the most likely record for Auburn. Since the number aries from 5.5 to 6.5 at different odds, he’s passing on the win total for Bryan Harsin’s second team on The Plains.
When asked more about Ole Miss, Brian explains why he thinks the Rebels will get ‘over’ 7.5 wins. He advises to shop around, though, and not get sucked into laying an expensive price like the one FanDuel is currently using (-165). (DraftKings has a better -135 number available.)
When the subject matter moves to the SEC East, Brian talks about Tennessee and Florida. He’s bullish on the Volunteers’ offense, but isn’t so sold on their defense. As for Florida, he says that “Anthony Richardson’s potential is a reason for optimsim,” but expresses concern about the schedule that has three coin-flip games in September.
