MajorWager’s Brian Edwards is a weekly guest on 3-Man Front in Birmingham on WJOX 94.5 FM every Thursday at 10:40 a.m. Central. In today’s appearance, Brian discussed Week 3 games with co-hosts Pat Smith and Landrum Roberts.
You can listen to the entire interview by clicking the tweet below.
The segment starts with Brian explaining his thoughts on a couple of first-half totals in SEC games, including the ‘over’ for both Charlotte at South Carolina (34.5 points) and Vanderbilt at Alabama (33.5). As he detailed in a column last week here at MajorWager, Brian has been looking to attack Charlotte’s defense with bets targeting that unit’s ineptitude. He did so successfully with Maryland’s Team Totals ‘over’ in the first half and game in Week 2.
Charlotte star QB Chris Reynolds was injured his team’s season-opening loss at FAU and missed the 49ers’ next two games. He was a game-time decision last week and ended up getting the start, and the program’s all-time leader in career passing yards was nothing short of sensational.
Reynolds’ TD pass with 17 seconds remaining lifted Charlotte to a 42-41 win at Ga. St. As for Ga. St.’s Team Total in the 1H last week, it scored on its two opening drives to take a 14-7 lead midway through the second quarter. On the Panthers’ third drive, they advanced into Charlotte territory, only to commit a turnover on sack that resulted in a fumble and a subsequent scoop-and-score TD for the 49ers.
Ga. St. would get its third TD midway through the second quarter, but the extra-point kick was missed. The Panthers drove into Charlotte territory again just before halftime before a couple of negative plays took them out of field-goal range. Therefore, the missed PAT kept Ga. St.’s 1H Team Total ‘under’ 20.5 by the hook.
When Ga. St. got to 41 points, its ‘over’ for the game (40.5) became a winner, but it was a split for Brian with the Bad Beat on the 1H TT ‘over’ for Ga. St.
In a key ACC contest in Winston-Salem, Brian explained to the Birmingham audience why he likes the Tigers, who have won 13 games in a row over the Demon Deacons, including 10 straight victories by margins of 14 points or more.
Next, he calls for Arkansas to not only win outright vs. Texas A&M in Arlington, but for the Hogs to put it on the Aggies by double digits.
Finally, Brian also points out plays he has on North Carolina to beat Notre Dame and cover, in addition to his thoughts for Florida at Tennessee.
